Violin Cremona, 1699, Castelbarco

A Violin Designed From Endless Experimentation

This violin was, with the “Castelbarco” cello of 1697, once a part of the quartet of Stradivaris owned by Count Cesare Castelbarco of Milan. After the count died, it was sold in London to Jean Baptiste Vuillaume. The violin later was sold to several other owners until it was purchased in about 1875 by John Mountford, who also owned the “Kreisler” Guarneri. Mountford owned this violin until his death, at which time it passed to the Hills of London and then to a Mrs. Renton of Guildford, Surrey. Nathan Posner bought this violin from Mrs. Renton and brought it to the United States. He in turn sold it to Mrs. Gertrude Clarke Whittall.

Stradivari’s works from 1697-99 are especially interesting in that they reflect his relentless experimentation-notably a transition from the long form of the mid-decade to the elegant proportions of his post-1700 works. The “Castelbarco” is among the last of these long-form instruments–slightly longer in body length but also narrower across the bouts. The length of the back of this violin is 355.5 mm while the 1704 “Betts” measures 353.0 mm.

Violin Cremona Quite a Unique Violin

Notable in the arching is the fullness in the C-bout, which gives the instrument more of a barrel shape than evidenced in later instruments. The pegbox, a design change, shows Stradivari’s practical side-enlarging Amati’s typical narrow dimension of the inside of the pegbox at the A-peg to 10.6 mm. The scroll was further widened on the “Betts” to 11.4 mm in an effort to give a musician greater ease in putting on an A-string.

Many of the Stradivari violins sold by the Hills have an inscription inside noting an owner. In the “Castelbarco” violin, it is inscribed in the top in the lower bout on the treble side: “The ‘Castelbarco’ Stradivari / for many years in possession / of John Mountford Esq. / A. Hill.” From Library of Congress.

Classical Music Still Lives On

When someone thinks about classical music, they think of school bands and Bach. It is not as popular as it used to be when it was the only kind of music out there.

This kind of music has been around forever. A great number of musical instruments and a variety of other components are required to make classical music. The majority of listeners of this music really enjoy the intricacies that are inherent in classical music.

Based on who wrote a particular piece and the mood he or she was in when it was written, classical music might be basic or complicated.

Research suggests that health problems including high blood pressure and stress can be improved by listening to classical music.

Many of the tones in classical music are in the high-frequency range. Studies indicate that high-frequency tones send signals that stimulate areas of your brain, resulting in better health.

A lot of the music that is popular these days is made up of low-frequency tones. These kinds of tones can impact the brain, and as a result, the body’s health in a bad way.

When a woman is pregnant, she will have lots of people asking or telling her to put earphones on her belly while playing classical music. Reports have shown that when a mother does this to their unborn child, after that child is born, they have a possibility of remembering that music.

Classical music’s complex and highly varied rhythmic structure could be responsible for this phenomenon.

Classical music is ubiquitous. You will hear it in all sorts of settings, from book stores to eateries to the radio in your car.

Despite the complexity of the music, classical can help provide a more positive outlook. Many people find it calming and soothing.

No matter what type of music you listen to now, classical music never die out and will always live on for many years to come.

Summer 2010: Top 10 Hits

There were a lot of hot songs that came out this summer. Among them were 10 that were most popular. To keep the radio sizzling along with the temperatures the artists brought out steaming sounds that hit the airwaves this month. You can either hear them by purchasing the CD, new movie soundtracks or downloading the tracks online.

Starting with #10 is a track from the hit sequel released this summer Sex and the City 2. It’s called “Love is Your Color” by the dynamic duo Jennifer Hudson & Leona Lewis. Jennifer Hudson was actually in the first Sex and the City playing Carrie’s assistant. This dream collaboration can be found on the Sex and the City 2 soundtrack. Both singers share backgrounds in reality shows American Idol and X-Factor. Lewis won the British competition in 2006 while Hudson was among the top 10 finalists in American Idol.

You’ve heard #9 a lot this year. It’s “Say Ahh” by Trey Songz, the perfect song during a Ladies’ Night for your girlfriend’s birthday outing. “Go girl! It’s ya birthday!” This latest hit single brings the same type of heat that 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” brought to the clubs and radio stations. Both praise a woman and her birthday encouraging her to party and celebrate life. At #8 we have one very eclectic new artist. Lady Gaga is one of the most popular artists out right now. For Summer 2010 she released the track “Alejandro”. Her Fame Monster CD was released Christmas 2009 including this hit single along with “Bad Romance” and “Telephone”. Her tour continues across the states. Jason Derulo is the singer of the #7 song “In My Head”. He’ll be in your head all summer with this catchy tune about summer love. Derulo praises his girl using a summer smash hit.

Our Top 6th song of Summer 2010 is “Break Your Heart” by Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris. Just about any summer song that includes Ludacris is bound to be a hit. It was played on The Hills season finale when Brody showed up at the club with a date in front of his ex, Kristin. They play it all the time on the radio. Probably because people like it so much, which explains it making the Top 10 list. Number 5 is a personal favorite. Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me” is great for summertime on the beach or riding with the top down. His unique sound and spicy lyrics set the mood for any summer party or even a back to school bash. Will.I.Am and Usher team up for the #4 song. “OMG” is constantly being played. Usher has made his return with new tracks like “Lil Freak” and “There Goes My Baby” along with this one which talks about love-at-first-sight. His last biggest summer club banger was “Yeah” in 2006.

As we reach the top of the list “Airplanes” by BOB featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore falls at #3. If you’ve ever wished for something to happen bad enough then you can relate to this track. It captures that essence brilliantly. The #2 song is “Getting Over You”. Together Willis and Fergie sound great on this inescapably catchy track which has summer fun written all over it. DJ Guetta has managed to mix his own twenty-first century sound with the best part of mid-90s club music. Finally, topping the list at numero uno is Katy Perry’s “California Gurls”. You can probably remember the first time you heard it. The song has quickly become the west coast anthem as Perry paints the picture of life on the beach in Cali. Lyrics like “daisy dukes with bikinis on top” describes the beach atmosphere in this 2010 summer hit. It’s definitely one you’ll want to jam on a sunny summery day.

They just keep on coming out with great singles, and you’ll probably agree that each of these tracks are somewhere among the top of the season! Well you can also have them at your very own discretion and more by using Convert My Tube. Any song or video that you like on You Tube can be converted to an mp3 within minutes using the You Tube downloader. Carry your favorite tracks with you wherever you travel whether it’s a Summer 2010 hit or an older chart-topper. Expect more hits to come!

How Stand-Up Comedians Could Possibly Get Into TV Or Film

There are many stand-up comedians that have become successful and popular. Their achievement has brought them to do TV shows based upon their story.

When you have an agent and start to get noticed, you can start really creating a name for yourself.

Stand-up comedians will use their emotions from the time they were maturing to integrate it with what they experience at present.

Any kind of past encounters are a great place to start and make use of as material. If you’ve been a substance abuser or you were abandoned as a child, you can use those experiences to have it started. Although those experiences had been regarded as unpleasant, for some reason you can consider them and make a joke out of them.

Join in a variety of small acting events. Carry out some extra movie function or perhaps audition for a role where you do little conversing. When the overall appeal is there, it is possible to audition to get your own radio show.

Begin composing material as though you already had your own show. You may want to do some additional stand-up performances to obtain a larger audience. Find out if you can get some of the important players and decision makers to come and see you perform. If not them see if possible to have their representative to come out and have a look. Their representatives are generally an extension of them.

Be careful that you may have to go through many executives and political plays to acquire what you look for. Everyone is not going to always be responsive because they feel they know precisely what viewers want to see.

Nonetheless, so long as you keep placing your name out there, someone may say yes. Do not give up your sitcom dream. The moment you want to give up is actually when someone will contact you and say, “Yes, we’ll offer you an opportunity.

Even when you get a television sitcom, it’s also possible to branch out straight into film. Movie directors will always be looking for comedians who can deliver good punch lines to make the movie a hit. In fact, some of the movies are so good that they end up doing series.

Never give up your dream of being a successful stand-up comedian on television or in movies. That’s how some of the other famous comedians got started; with a hope, a dream, perseverance and finally a sitcom on television.

Once you get a sitcom, create characters, which are similar to you and how you grew up. This is less difficult because you’ll be able to connect. Once you have established that, sooner or later, you will need to evolve into other pursuits.

You may realize that the person that you had been in your stand-up routines won’t always be a similar person. You will have to make improvements and perhaps do subjects, which you thought you would never have to deal with for television. Be thankful you have been granted an opportunity to move to next level.

Being a stand-up comedian is not easy. Nevertheless, if you enjoy doing the work, your craft can turn into a lot more than simply doing performances in comedy clubs or other locations. You need to be hardworking with your craft, so others will prove your sincerity in your performances.

Stand-up comedians will need to have a lot of enthusiasm as well as fascination with their business, because they understand it is not easy to perform in front of an audience and try to make all of them laugh. You are not performing to constantly strike the bull’s eye when sharing jokes to them. Many may like them while others probably won’t. Do not get discouraged at the haters and the hecklers because they are out there.

You will need to keep at it, as you never know who could possibly be out in the audience at any given time. That person might be the one who is able to take your career to a different level.

Mel Gibson Threatens To Kill Ex-Girlfriend

The scandal between Mel Gibson and her previous girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva had created a tremendous noise in the entire show business industry. Just recently, Mel Gibson’s voice was heard from an audio recording sounding like a psychotic killer while threatening Oksana’s life. Gibson admits that he beats Oksana and he warned to kill her more than once.

According to some sources, Mel Gibson had gotten a restraining order filed by Oksana due to physical and emotional violence. Last Monday, Oksana’s Family and her lawyer attended a court trial and two sources stated that Gibson is indeed extremely violent.

On the other hand, some sources connected with Gibson claimed that this incident happened last January. In fact, Oksana even travelled with Mel Gibson all over the world after the alleged incident. However, Oksana’s defense was that the physical abuse happened in January but there are other non-physical situations that can be measured as domestic violence. But why would Oksana still stay with Gibson considering these allegations?

There are numerous cases that women stay with their husbands or partner even though they experience any sort of violence. But the reason behind Oksana’s action against Gibson is vague. Oksana was interviewed right outside her house which was bought by Gibson saying that she filed the restraining order even before Gibson filed an order to shut her mouth by saying any details that would affect Mel Gibson’s image. She claims that the issue was mostly about who would win their child’s custody and that she was advised by her lawyers not to speak anything related to the violent incident. So what could possibly be forcing Mel Gibson to be in such strange behavior?

We all know that Mel Gibson is one of the most respected and renowned Hollywood personalities. He has contributed towards many successful projects and created a huge name in terms of acting and directing films such as the self-funded movie “The Passion of The Christ” which was considered the most controversial movie back in 2004. Who would have thought that Mel Gibson would be involved in such controversies and scandals after his numerous achievements and the fact that he was raised a traditionalist Catholic.

Another group of experts think that his behavior is completely driven by regrets and anger. They go on to say that he’s not trying to get any help, he just wants to continue on the way he is. Which ever way it goes, Mel Gibson needs to find other ways in which he can release his anger.

Many of his well wishers and fans believe that he should definitely go in a vacation with his family or with his group of people whom he loves so that he will be able to overcome anger and will be able to communicate in a more healthy and constructive way. Currently he is living under frustration, anger and loneliness.

The One With Phoebe’s Uterus: Frank Jr. and Alice have eloped, and they ask Phoebe to be a surrogate mother for them; Phoebe asks advice of her birth mother, who gives her a puppy for only three days so she’ll know what it’s like to give up something you love. Ross gets Joey a job as a Tour Guide at the museum; Joey is hurt when Ross won’t sit next to him at lunch (the white coats don’t sit with the blue blazers); this prompts Ross to stand up and make some changes in the cafeteria, but it works a little too well. Chandler is nervous about being intimate with Kathy since she used to be Joey’s girlfriend; feeling his performance is only adequate, he asks advice from Monica and Rachel; Kathy is very grateful.

The One With Rachel’s Crush: When Chandler finds out Kathy’s new play involves a steamy scene with her co-star, he’s worried where it might lead; Joey tells him not to worry–as long as there’s chemistry on-stage, there isn’t anything happening off-stage; This helps… until Chandler sees the play again later and finds the performance isn’t as good; Chandler accuses Kathy of sleeping with her leading man; they fight and part on unfavorable terms; by the time Chandler goes to apologize and make up, it’s too late. Monica tells Joey that the guys have to be the hosts since they have the big apartment; but she can’t stand it, and tries to win everyone over to her place by doing lots of cooking and re-decorating. Rachel’s department at work is eliminated, so she has to become a Personal Shopper; she plans to quit until a handsome, well-to-do young man needs her services; she wants to ask him on a date, but doesn’t know how… she’s never had to ask anyone out before.

The One With The Free Porn: Joey and Chandler unexpectedly receive an “adult” movie channel. Ross tries to talk with Rachel about her feelings, but she just pretends she’s fine. However, while feeling kind of desperate she tries to move way too fast with Joshua and ends up scaring him off. Monica picks up Emily’s wedding dress for her, and finds she just can’t resist wearing it… a lot. Phoebe and Rachel catch the spirit as well, and soon they’re all wearing white. Ross and Emily set a wedding date just one month away. Rachel talks with Monica and Phoebe about her unresolved feelings for Ross.

The One With Ross’s Wedding, part 2: Phoebe fights phone friction while trying to warn Joey and Chandler that Rachel is on her way to ruin the wedding. Joey gets homesick… until he finds a cute bridesmaid (Felicity) who wants to know him better. The Gellers meet the Walthams; Jack Geller has agreed to pay for half of the wedding… until he finds out Mr. Waltham is counting his house remodeling as a wedding expense. Rachel tries and tries again to get on a flight to London; she gets underway but annoys the other passengers. Chandler and Monica have a difficult time at the rehearsal dinner; they console each other, and end up sleeping together. The next day, Joey, Chandler, and Monica watch for Rachel before the wedding; she slips in while Joey makes out with Felicity, but decides not to tell Ross how she feels. During the wedding ceremony, Ross accidentally speaks Rachel’s name instead of Emily’s, halting the proceedings.

Funny Sitcoms For All Ages

Murphy Brown (1988-1998): A modern-day Mary Richards (if Mary had done a stint at the Betty Ford clinic and been an unmarried mom), Murphy (Candice Bergen) was a tough TV reporter who loved, but was annoyed by, her colleagues … not to mention Dan Quayle, who infamously railed against Murphy’s single-mom status.

Sex and the City (1998-2004): Inspiring countless copycats of sex columnist Carrie’s fab designer lifestyle, ‘SATC’ ultimately owed its success to one of the best female ensembles in tube history, with Sarah Jessica Parker and pals just as adept at physical comedy as they were at dropping those naughty one-liners.

The Odd Couple (1970-1975): The show that asked if “two divorced men (could) share an apartment without driving each other crazy” answered the question with as much hilarity as the preceding play and movie, earning Emmys for stars Tony Randall as neat freak Felix Unger and Jack Klugman as proud slob Oscar Madison.

Frasier (1993-2004): Cliff and Norm seemed more obvious choices for ‘Cheers’ spin-offs, but it was Kelsey Grammer’s uptight shrink who got his own sharply written sitcom. The Crane fellas made for one competitive yet loving family, which helped the show become the most Emmy-winning series (with 37) in history.

The Office (2005-present): Some argue the original series is better, but for our Schrute Bucks, it’s the Dunder Mifflin gang that most hilariously captures the monotony of ‘Office’ life. Michael Scott over David Brent? Yep. Dwight over Gareth? Indeed. And not since Sam & Diane have we been treated to a sitcom couple as hot as Jim & Pam.

I Love Lucy (1951-1957): A comedy so classic it still goes down as smoothly as a bottle of Vitameatavegamin, the first major TV ratings hit owed its success to Lucille Ball’s gift for physical comedy, whether re-enacting the Marx Brothers’ mirror scene with Harpo, wrapping candy with Ethel or selling that “health” tonic.

M*A*S*H (1972-1983): From Hawkeye’s womanizing to Klinger’s obsession with getting a Section Eight, a constant barrage of wisecracks and juvenile pranks was just what the doctor ordered for these Korean War army surgeons, whose gallows humor was the only way they, and viewers, could deal with the traumas of war.

Cheers (1982-1993): The Boston gang gave us not only a seminal workplace sitcom, but also one of the best TV romances ever with baseball pro-turned-bar owner Sam and snooty “student of life” Diane, and one of the all-time greatest ensemble casts in know-it-all Cliff, beer-lovin’ Norm, gold-digging Rebecca and naive Woody.
