Celebrity Biography : John Cussack

Born in Chicago on 26th June 1966, John Cusack has become a movie icon for an entire generation of cinema-goers. With his easy-going charm, unconventional good looks and an unquestionable talent, he is a face that everyone recognises.
The son of Richard Cusack, a documentary film-maker and his theatrical wife Nancy, John started acting at a very early age, starring in numerous commercials and information films. His first movie role was Class (1983), swiftly followed by another John Hughes scripted teen comedy Sixteen Candles in 1984. Carving somewhat of a niche for himself after that playing lovable rogues in comedies like The Sure Thing (1985) and Say Anything (1989), a role that must have inspired many a love struck kid to stand outside their beaus house, ghetto blaster aloft, pumping out (unfortunately) a Peter Gabriel song. Cusack became a hero for teen boys everywhere.

After roles in some less than forgettable mid-eighties ‘comedies’, Cusack started on a more dramatic route, taking parts in Eight Men Out (1988) and The Grifters (1990). Playing alongside Hollywood heavyweight Anjelica Huston, this proved to be a power-house of a movie, with a dark under current of sex and violence, alloying Cusack to flex his more serious acting muscles.
These days Cusack is a regular at the box office, starring in films with Julia Roberts, Nicolas Cage and Al Pacino. He has also turned hand to writing, co-scripting and co-producing the delightful Grosse Point Blank, a romantic comedy about a hitman returning home for his high school reunion. Turning forty this year, Cusack has spent more than twenty years in movies and has given us some truly memorable screen moments and long may he continue to do so.
